On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning successfully held International Lecture Series #10. It was held online and broadcast via YouTube. The discussion is about Tourism Entrepreneurship, which is related to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). On this occasion, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, as Head of the Department of Urban and Planning at Diponegoro University gave opening remarks. In her remarks, she said that in 2023 there were 10 ILS activities held in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning involving several academic partners from various institutions in many countries. It is hoped that the activities, which were initiated in 2021, can continue and develop further in the following year. Mr. Sariffuddin, MT from the City Development Laboratory, who is currently studying at Radboud University, the Netherlands joined as a moderator and guided the discussion with two presenters. The first material was delivered by Prof. TPR Dr. Hairul Nizam Ismail from the Center for Innovative Planning and Development, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, regarding Tourism Entrepreneurship: From Family to Transgenerational Business in Destination Planning. Meanwhile, Maya Damayanti, Ph.D from the Urban and Regional Planning Department, Diponegoro University, explained about Tourism Entrepreneurship in Developing Rural Tourism. An important note in the discussion was the need for alternative sustainable development (rural-urban settings), community empowerment through tourism activities, and effective solutions to improve the local economy. Meanwhile, developing tourism still faces several challenges, such as the products or attractions offered and the people. The webinar activity went well, and there were around 98 participants who attended online via Zoom Meeting and YouTube, not only students and lecturers at Diponegoro University but also academics from other universities both in Indonesia and abroad, representatives of government agencies, NGOs and alumni of Diponegoro University.
