Prof Iwan Rudiarto, lecturer/researcher at the Geomatics and Planning Lab, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Diponegoro University has successfully organized an important global event for academia in the planning field that is the 16th World Planning School Congress in Bali/5th Asian Planning Schools Association on the theme “Planning A Global Village: Inclusion, Innovation, Disruption (https://wpsc-apsa2022.org/). The congress highlights some important issues such as inclusive rural planning, smart city planning, energy, environment, and planning in the industrial era 4.0. Along with the success of the event, Prof. Iwan Rudiarto is now act as the Chair of GPEAN (Global Planning Education Association Network) Congress Steering Committee for the congress in 2026.
The event was attended by about 300 offline participants and 400 virtual attendees from more than 50 Countries. Opened by representative from the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs, Spatial Planning and National Land, this event has succeeded in becoming an arena for creating more collaborations between world researchers and practitioners in the field of urban and regional planning. Prof. Iwan Rudiarto, who also acts as the chairman of the Indonesian Planning School Association, emphasized that with this event, the role of Indonesia and the University of Diponegoro in contributing to increasing the knowledge of urban and regional planning was in the world’s spotlight, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic which changed the new world of planning. The event, which was held from August 29 to September 2, is part of a world event held in Bali ahead of the G-20, hopefully it will open the world’s attention to Indonesia in realizing a more sustainable urban and regional planning and development.
