Nowadays, technological advances facilitate many aspects of human life. One of the technology advancements is the information system. In the context of tourism, information systems have a role in every stage of tourism planning and development such as data collection and management, analysis, planning, and evaluation. Information systems often become a platform for collaboration and public participation in the tourism planning process. In addition, the existence of a tourism planning information system can improve the tourist experience through the availability of information. In other words, the information system is able to support in realizing tourism-related sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 8.
Diponegoro University’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP Undip) is one of the planning schools in Indonesia that has a Planning Information System Elective Subject (MKP SIP). In 2024, 11 students of MKP SIP practiced developing a tourism planning information system located in Temanggung Regency. Each student learned to identify tourism conditions, formulate issues, and develop tourism planning. The planning information system named “TRIP” (Temanggung Recreation Information Portal) is prepared in the format of WebGIS to facilitate users in obtaining information related to tourism in Temanggung Regency which is illustrated spatially.
At the end of the lesson, students of MKP SIP conducted an excursion to present the results of the tourism planning information system to the Temanggung Regency Culture and Tourism Agency. This activity was held at Friday, May 31 2024 and was accompanied by lecturers, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Imam Buchori and Dr. Anang Wahyu Sejati. In addition, this activity was also attended by Mr. Hendra Sumaryana, MT as the Head of the Temanggung Regency Culture and Tourism Agency.
This MKP SIP learning is expected to be able to improve students’ insights and skills in delivering tourism planning results through an information system. This tourism planning information system is expected to provide feedback for sustainable tourism planning, management, and development in Temanggung Regency. In addition, the existence of this tourism planning information system is also expected to provide benefits for local communities, governments, and tourists.
