The Summer Course ‘Resilient Communities for Sustainable Cities’ has been successfully conducted from July 25 to August 4, 2023. It is a collaborative activity between the Department of Urban and Regional Planning UNDIP and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of University of Hawaii at Manoa (UH Manoa), USA. This Summer Course collaboration is an annual event organized not only to facilitate international exposure for International Undergraduate Program (IUP) URP UNDIP students but also to support the efforts of UNDIP as a World Class University (WCU).
Speaking at this event are representatives from both universities, Assoc. Prof. Ashok Das, Ph.D., and Assoc. Prof. Priyam Das, Ph.D., who were course coordinators and speakers from UH Manoa. Prof. Wiwandari Handayani and Rukuh Setiadi, Ph.D., represented UNDIP. Also, from government institutions, there were speakers from the Semarang City Bappeda, M. Luthfi Eko Nugroho, S.t., M.t., and the Central Java Provincial Disperakim, Arif Sugeng Haryanto, S.T. The event is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yudi Basuki and Assoc. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wakhidah Kurniawati as the head and program secretary of bachelor program DURP – UNDIP.
A total of 12 participants from UNDIP, UH Manoa, Nigeria, and Afghanistan attended the event. Additionally, there were 26 participants who joined this activity through MOOCS (Massive Open Online Course) UNDIP. The study areas were located at Sayung Village in Demak, the Urban Farming area along the Tenggang River in Semarang, Kampung Pelangi, and Kampung Bustaman. Participants actively engaged in the learning process, discussions, field visits, and studio activities. Identifying the core issues of the study areas, analysing potential problems, and developing conceptual strategies for sustainability were among the conclusions from the studio results.
