As part of the efforts to strengthen internationalization toward Diponegoro University’s (Undip) vision of becoming a World Class University, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) of the Faculty of Engineering Undip has appointed Prof. Dr. Walter Timo de Vries, a Professor of Land Management from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, as an Adjunct Professor for 2025.
Prof. Walter participates in various academic activities, ranging from teaching and public lectures to research collaboration. He teaches Land Planning and Development for undergraduate students, as well as academic writing for master’s and doctoral students at DURP Faculty of Engineering Undip. “I see that DURP Undip has a strong commitment to promoting research and advancing knowledge in sustainable spatial planning,” said Prof. Walter.
In addition to teaching, Prof. Walter also delivered an Ec(h)otone public lecture as part of DURP Faculty of Engineering Undip’s collaboration within the Global Center of Spatial Methods for Urban Sustainability (SMUS), as well as a public lecture on transmigration transformation for Undip’s collaboration with the Ministry of Transmigration. He is also involved in research activities as a speaker for a manuscript clinic, a peer reviewer for publications, and a collaborator with DURP Faculty of Engineering Undip academics in writing the scientific article “Tenure Security and Responsible Land Management of Urban Informal Settlements on Waqf Land in Semarang City, Indonesia” (https://www.mdpi.com/3379612).
Prof. Walter’s involvement in the 2025 Adjunct Professor Program is expected to enhance DURP Faculty of Engineering Undip’s international exposure, particularly in research, teaching, and the development of academic innovation. This initiative also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education. It is hoped that his contribution will help expand global networks and strengthen the university’s reputation.
