The Sunan Kalijaga Tomb in Kadilangu, Demak, is one of the areas that has a history of the development of civilization in Central Java. According to Demak Regency Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2020, Amendment to Demak Regency Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2011 concerning Demak Regency Spatial Planning for 2011-2031, the Sunan Kalijaga Kadilangu Tomb is a cultural heritage and tourism area. Besides, this area is also included in the strategic areas of the province from the point of view of Central Java’s social and cultural interests. Therefore, this cultural heritage area requires regulation to leverage its potencies and to anticipate problems. The lecturers and students from the Department of Regional and Urban Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro University, have surveyed field excursion activities at the Sunan Kalijaga Tomb, Kadilangu, Demak to understand the existing conditions better.

The excursion was also attended by the Head of Kadilangu Village and the staff, and representatives from the Demak Tourism Office. This activity is a part of elective subjects, such as urban village development and urban preservation which aimed to obtain actual and accurate data. Historical aspects, cultural values, community activities, pilgrim activities, and the management of the Sunan Kalijaga Tomb are the main focus of this activity. The field observation results are the main basis for a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of cultural tourism activities and the conservation of historical areas. This activity is also a form of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Goal number 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, where safeguarding cultural heritage is necessary for the sustainability of the cultural value of the Sunan Kalijaga.
