The Department of Regional and Urban Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University (Undip) has held a series of Character Education (Pendikar) events as part of the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB). A total of 242 new students from the Undergraduate Program participated in the Pendikar series of activities, which took place on August 19, 20, and 22, 2025. These activities aimed to shape character, morals, and ethics, while instilling Diponegoro values to build a civilized, useful, and dignified generation.
The activities began with PKKMB on Tuesday, August 19, which included material on Introduction to the Department Profile, Introduction to Lectures and Lecturers, Higher Education System, National Insight and State Defense, Environmental Awareness and Disaster Preparedness on Campus, as well as Culture, Ethics, and Norms of Campus Life.
On the second day, Wednesday, August 20, Pendikar activities were held, focusing on character building for students. The materials presented included Culture and Ethics at Undip Campus, Personal Branding, Courage and Care, Emotional Regulation, and Integrity. The event was also interspersed with interactive games involving facilitators and students, which aimed to foster enthusiasm, solidarity, and collaboration among students.
On the third day, Friday, August 22, 2025, the Pendikar series of activities was closed with material on Instilling Diponegoro Values, Applying Pancasila Values in life, and Colorful Action in My Environment (Warna-warni lingkunganku) through “Plano Gardening” activities. On this occasion, DURP Undip lecturer Dr. Eng. Maryono, S.T., M.T acted as a speaker who explained and demonstrated composting techniques for waste in the campus to new students. In his explanation, Dr. Eng. Maryono, S.T., M.T emphasized the importance of students as a generation of change to be more concerned about the surrounding environment by maintaining environmental cleanliness and managing waste wisely. The activity continued with the planting of plants brought by new students using compost produced from waste processing in the DURP Undip. Symbolically, the Head of DURP Undip, Prof. Dr. -Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, S.T, M.T, MPS, handed over plant pots to new students, and then the students declared their commitment to care for these plants until they graduate. The “Plano Gardening” activity is an effort by DURP Undip to support Undip campus in becoming a green, environmentally friendly, and sustainable campus in line with the SDG 11 target – Sustainable Cities and Communities.
