On Sunday, August 18, 2024, the prestigious masterplan design competition “Plano In Action (PIA) Vol. 15,” organized by the Urban and Regional Planning (PWK) Study Program of Surakarta University, reached its climax. Out of the five best teams who were given the opportunity to present their innovative concepts, three teams from Diponegoro University’s PWK program swept all the winning titles—first, second, and third place.
The first-place team consisted of Kahfi Syuhada, Muhammad Rivo Cahyo, Fimansyah Adhitya, and Zayyana Arbaniya. The second-place team included Nabila Arifa Puspita Sari, Olivia Cikal Pradani, along with two students from Semarang State University (UNNES). Meanwhile, the third-place team was made up of Laila Fatima Rahmanida, Shahwa Ramadhani, Azizah Nur Nahari, and Surya Sadewa Fathian.
Reaching the top was no easy feat for these three PWK Undip teams. They had to compete fiercely with 14 other teams from prestigious universities, including Diponegoro University itself and Sumatra Institute of Technology. The selection process began with the submission of papers, followed by narrowing down to the top five. In the final round, each team was required to submit supporting documents such as masterplans, posters, videos, and PowerPoint presentations, which they then presented live.
Innovative Strength Behind the Victory
The concepts presented by these three teams captivated the judges with their innovative and sustainable ideas, focusing on the development of the Tambak Lorok area in Semarang.
The first-place team presented “Tambak Lorok: Seaside Haven of Recreational Enjoyment,” a comprehensive solution to address the issues of slum settlements in Tambak Lorok. They emphasized environmental restoration and eco-friendly infrastructure development, creating an area that is not only well-organized but also holds recreational value.
The second-place team introduced the concept “Building Opportunities Optimizing Sustainable Tech.” This project focused on optimizing sustainable technologies and developing a circular economy, offering solutions that leverage technology to improve living conditions and the environment in Tambak Lorok.
Meanwhile, the third-place team offered an equally innovative approach with the concept “Sustainable Green Infrastructure for Livelihood Regeneration in Tambak Lorok.” With three main pillars—social, economic, and environmental—this concept combined Nature-Based Solutions, Green Infrastructure, and Ecosystem Restoration to address environmental issues like flooding and coastal ecosystem degradation, while involving the community in decision-making processes and climate change adaptation.
A Glorious Moment for Diponegoro University’s PWK Program
This outstanding victory serves as a testament to the abilities of PWK Undip students in designing creative and practical solutions for urban and environmental challenges. The three PWK Undip teams succeeded in impressing the judges with sustainable innovations that addressed real-world issues, further solidifying Diponegoro University’s reputation as one of Indonesia’s leading institutions in urban and regional planning.
By taking home all the winning titles at PIA Vol. 15, PWK Undip students have demonstrated that they are not only ready to compete at the national level but are also pioneers in offering smart solutions for a better future.
