On Friday, May 5, the International Lecture Series # 02 was held in a hybrid format at the Theater Room of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Universitas Diponegoro, and the Zoom Meeting. The theme of the discussion for the webinar is Urban Transformation and Capacity for Climate Change Adaptation, and in general, it can be related to Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Change Action), and Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). On this occasion, Prof. Dr. -Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning Universitas Diponegoro, gave opening remarks. Aniessa Delima Sari, M.Sc from Inisiatif Kota untuk Perubahan Iklim (IKUPI), became the moderator who guided the discussion with two presenters. The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Alex Lo from the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, regarding urban transformation and climate change adaptation in two study areas, namely Tai O City and Macau. Meanwhile, Rukuh Setiadi, Ph.D from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Universitas Diponegoro, explained the conditions of urban transformation and climate change adaptation in the study areas in Indonesia. Essential notes in the discussion include the urban transformation that occurred in Tai O and Macau City, indicating the occurrence of economic and political transformation. To encourage urban/rural transformation, this can be done by 1) prioritizing high-return (although not necessarily resilient) land use, 2) reducing disaster risk (not necessarily in the form of long-term adaptation). Meanwhile, adaptive integration of measures has emerged in several examples in the study area. Clear shared goals, innovation, iterative strategies, and actor commitment are likely to hold the keys to urban climate change adaptation transformation. The webinar activity went well, there were around 60 participants who attended online and offline, not only students and lecturers at Diponegoro University, but also academics from other universities both in Indonesia and abroad, representatives of government agencies, and alumni.
