To enhance the productive collaboration with UH Manoa and also to give international exposure for IUP students, BPURP sent 20 IUP students to attend as guests/observers into UH Manoa courses in the fall semester of 2021 online. The students were distributed across the courses, namely PLAN 600 Public Policy and Planning Theory, PLAN 310 Introduction to Planning, PLAN 625 Climate, Energy and Food, and PLAN 670 Seminar in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (DHMA).
For the fall semester of 2021, the students participate for 3-4 weeks in each course. They participated in 4 courses between September until October 2021. With the online sit-in course, this model provides IUP students with the exposure they seek.
They can experience learning with international lecturers and students, as well as the global course material. The biggest challenge is the 17-hour time difference between Indonesia and Hawai’i, so students have to attend lectures at unusual times.
