On Thursday, November 28, 2024, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning successfully held International Lecture Series #06. It was held online via Zoom (Synchronously) and asynchronously on YouTube. The discussion is, “Sustainable Urban Regeneration,” which related to Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). On this occasion Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Universitas Diponegoro, gave opening remarks. In her speech, she emphasized that urban regeneration is a critical issue in urban and regional planning. This Lecture Series aims to enrich the topic and inspire innovative ideas for student research. Additionally, the event provides international exposure for the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Universitas Diponegoro and the University of the Philippines.
In this event, Novia Sari Ristianti, ST, MT, from Universitas Diponegoro’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning, served as the moderator, facilitating discussions with two speakers. The first presentation, “Heritage Regeneration,” was delivered by Prof. Nappy L. Navarra, D.Eng, from the College of Architecture, University of the Philippines. Meanwhile, Dr.-Ing. Santy Paulla Dewi from Universitas Diponegoro, explained “Defining Urban Regeneration in Indonesia,”
An important note from the discussion urban regeneration, both in urban areas and heritage areas, can enhance the quality of the urban environment. For heritage areas, the focus lies in integrating cultural heritage preservation with the promotion of local heritage and community identity. Achieving sustainable urban regeneration requires collaboration among government bodies, the private sector, and community involvement in creating sustainable urban environments.
The event was attended synchronously by 75 participants via Zoom, including students and lecturers from Universitas Diponegoro, academic communities from other universities, government representatives, NGOs, and Universitas Diponegoro alumni.
