The Covid-19 pandemic was one of the most disastrous moments that impacted every corner of the world. The pandemic affects all aspects such as the economy and society, including the sustainability of the dynamic of urban life. Inspired by the momentum of the global recovery from the last pandemic, the 2nd ICUDeP was one of the strategic events held by The Laboratory of Urban Design of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Universitas Diponegoro. Entitled “Sustainable Urban Design and Development In Post-Pandemic World.” Aiming the vision of socializing new knowledge and perspectives toward a sustainable future.

The event was held online on the 11th of June 2022 and discussing on how a city all around the world should adjust and develop for a sustainable future. The committee called for a paper from preliminary studies and practical experience from all students, lecturers, researchers, and professionals worldwide. Attended by 200+ participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Ghana, and Netherland. The organizing committee led by Dr. -Ing. Santy Paulla Dewi, ST, MT as the head of the laboratory, presents four vibrant and inspiring keynote speakers.

Prof. Matthijs Bouw from the University of Pennsylvania, one of the keynote speakers, stated that the world was changing and at the risk of biodiversity collapse as the climate and environment decreased over time. Complimented by the other three speakers sound how to preserve a heritage value of a city, how the new Indonesian capital was planned, and the strategy towards sustainable city design. The event was also a corporation between the Indonesian Planning Association (IAP), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and the Universitas Diponegoro. In conclusion, the event expressed that a city’s development must balance the growth and development aspects with the environmental, heritage, and community-oriented features to carry out the value of a sustainable future.
